Swing... and a miss...

Still trying to figure out the pluses of naming Sarah Palin as his VP has for John McCain.

Does the GOP think naming a pro-life, former beauty queen, Christian who believes intelligent design should be taught in school, former very-very-small-town mayor (my high school had about a third of its population), first-term governor of the third smallest state (population-wise) will woo Democratic supporters of Hillary Clinton to their ticket?

I'm pretty sure the addition of a pair of boobs to the Republican ticket will have not only a negligible impact, but a negative one as well. The women in my office were, as a group, pretty offended.

Now I know why they call it a party. Somebody was smoking something...

Yes, I do think it will. Here's why:

She's the perfect nominee for McCain. She's pro-life. A reformer. She has a kid in Iraq AND one with Down Syndrome. She's a hunter, she's hot, she won beauty pageants, she played basketball, she's not from Wershington...the list goes on and on.

This is going to play so well in middle America, especially with voters who were considering Obama but now have the perfect excuse to vote GOP. We might as well get used to calling him President McCain.

If they're going to roll out the VP pity party, Palin's got nothing on Joe Biden, who also has a son headed to Iraq. For that matter, so did John McCain (he's got one son who's a Marine and the other just graduated from Canoe U).

What she does is firm up the GOP base. She'll bring out the folks who weren't going to vote for McCain.

You can also be sure this point will be made by someone: "Does Sarah Palin have what it takes to be one heartbeat away from the presidency held by a 72-year-old with health issues."

The Republican party already has a "pair of boobs." They're called Bush and Cheney.

*rimshot*

Shannon - good rimshot. After reading up a little bit more on Palin, turns out she makes Cheney look like a flaming liberal. At least he's not *totally* against gay marraige.

I actually agree with Arjewtino. For those voters on the fence, Palin’s the “change” [a woman or person of color] the Republican Party needs… enough change to nab voters on the fence but not so much that she alienates huge numbers of people. That she’s even less experienced than Obama means nothing. She hunts. And she’s hot.

Great, along with the "I'd rather hava beer with him" standard, we now have the "She's hot and she hunts" demographic.

Interesting - I actually like her even though I am Pro Choice - she has been a lifelong member of the NRA and the woman can shoot a machine gun! Well that's not why I like her - I am actually working on a post about her. So I will save it for that.

Biden is a part of the good ole boy network, she isn't - that's what we need.
