Sticky Information

I always find the bumper stickers, and the combination of stickers, people slap on the ass ends of their cars interesting. If one catches my eye, but can’t quite read because of location or distance, I’ve been known to maneuver my car for a better look.

And while I currently don’t have any bumper stickers on my car, I do have two UNC window stickers. On my first car, a trusty and loyal blue Dodge Shadow, I had a “Give Blood, Play Rugby” sticker which was later replaced, along with the bumper, with “He’s Not Here…” and “Support Your Local Brewery” stickers.

This morning I was behind a full-size pick-up, it’s entire rear bumper plastered with those annoying oval three-letter stickers. Although, I will add, it was done in a kinda cool overlapping and random pattern, and included one reading “FU2”. For those of you who’ve never spent any time around Ham operators or military communications, FU2 is shorthand for “fuck you twice.”

So I got a little laugh out of that.

The other interesting combination I saw would, to me, seem counterintuitive. On the back of a Camry or Accord two of the bumper stickers read “One Nation, Under Educated” and “John Stewart ’08”.

Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good laugh as much as the next guy, but it would seem to me if you got your news from a source other than a comedian we might just make a dent in that education problem.

Sad part is the comedian is more informed than most people...

you would have a field day with my SUV -- no one can figure out my skull on the back ever -- kind of funny

Lem - Probably true. But folks should still pick up a newspaper for themselves once in a while.

Zip - There are a couple of stickers I've yet to figure out, but I'm working on it.

I am not such a bumper sticker person, but I do find it fastcinating when people just plaster them.

You know I loved He's Not, and I still think it's the best bar name ever. What was the bar with the T-shirts that said "Beer is good for you" - was that Henderson Street Bar and Grill?

Lisa - My fav sticker from Franklin Street was "He's not here...He's at Linda's". I don't remember that shirt, which is surprising considering. HSBG is still there, at least it was the last time I looked. He's Not is pouring the Blue Cups, but now they cost $4.50.

I've never once put a bumper sticker on any of the vehicles that I owned but I've always liked the 'coexist' one.

JoLee - I saw that exact sticker this past weekend. It was one of a group including "Meat is Murder" and "Go Vegan!" among others.

He's Not! I still have blue cups in my cupboard...

LiLu - We have to do a roadie one of these days, kinda like Smokey and the Bandit, and bootleg some more of those cups up here. And, maybe, just maybe, have one or two along the way.

That photo makes me nostalgic for my old Nissan, with its eleven bumper stickers.

Incidentally, my verification word is "nuters"---which is probably how you felt when you borrowed my car.

Shan - I always liked the "Darwin" fish with feet. That was my fav.

Ah, the best bumper sticker I ever saw was affixed to the wall (along with about 1000 other stickers) of a lesbian-run fish and chip shack in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. It said:

"Eat moose. 20,000 wolves can't be wrong."

Fearless - That totally didn't go the direction I thought it would.
